Joe Manchin on second Trump impeachment: "This is so ill-advised"

West Virginia senator Joe Manchin said the House impeachment of Donald Trump is “ill-advised” and could be divisive at a moment when Biden is trying to heal the country.

“I think this is so ill-advised for Joe Biden to be coming in, trying to heal the country, trying to be the president of all the people when we are going to be so divided and fighting again. Let the judicial system do its job,” Manchin said on Fox. “We are a country that follows the rule of law, that’s the bedrock of who we are. Let that take its place. Let the investigations go on and evidence come forth and then we will go forth from there,” he added.

Manchin explained that there is not enough support in the Senate to remove Trump. A fact, he indicated that he has been trying to communicate to the House.

House Democrats are set to impeach Donald Trump for a second time on Wednesday after officially introducing an article of impeachment that charges him with ‘incitement of insurrection’ on Monday.

Some Democrats like South Carolina Congressman James Clyburn argued against sending the articles to the Senate now to avoid Biden’s agenda getting bogged down during the first 100 days of his presidency.

Manchin said he believes Trump can be impeached after he leaves office. “There is no rush to do this impeachment now” he says, arguing that Trump will be out of office in 9 days no matter what happens and McConnell will not consider impeachment until January 19th when the Senate is back from recess.
