The California bar association is seeking to strip former Trump campaign legal advisor John Eastman, of his law license.
Eastman was the author of two memos citing a widely-discredited theory that then-Vice-President Mike Pence had the authority to reject the results of the 2020 election in Congress on Jan. 6, 2021.
The 11-count complaint from the California bar association accused Eastman of engaging “in a course of conduct to plan, promote, and assist then-President Trump in executing a strategy, unsupported by facts or law, to overturn the legitimate results of the 2020 presidential election by obstructing the count of electoral votes of certain states,” the State Bar of California wrote in a statement.
“Eastman knew, or should have known, that the factual premise for his proposals―that massive fraud was at play―was false, and that Trump had lost his bid for re-election,” State Bar of California Chief Trial Counsel George Cardona said.
Other attorneys who lied about voter fraud to try and overturn the results of the 2020 election were disbarred or facing disbarment.
Rudy Giuliani’s law license was temporarily suspended in New York and a bar association disciplinary panel is weighing suspending his license in D.C as well.
Authorities in Texas are also considering whether to disbar Sidney Powell.
