Josh Hawley blames staffer for Signal chat leak after Waltz denied that a staffer is responsible.

Republicans are still searching for a scapegoat to blame for Donald Trump’s national security officials leaking classified war plans to The Atlantic’s Jeffrey Goldberg.

But, it appears they have cycle through so many excuses that they’re back to square one.

In an interview with Fox News’ Jesse Watters Wednesday night Missouri Sen. Josh Hawley (R) went back to blaming a staffer for the national security leak.

“I thought that the national security adviser was clear about this yesterday, the president was clear about it,” Hawley said. “You know, some staffer who apparently set up the group chat– I assume that person probably won’t be in charge of meetings anymore.”

However, national security adviser Mike Waltz, who added Goldberg to the chat, appeared on Fox News the day before and explicitly stated that a staffer was not responsible for the leak.

“A staffer wasn’t responsible,” Waltz tolds Fox News’ Laura Ingraham Tuesday night. “I take full responsibility. I built the group. My job is to make sure everything is coordinated.”
