Herschel Walker’s team is allegedly trying to keep the gaffe prone candidate away from journalists ahead of the Dec. 6 runoff against incumbent Sen. Raphael Warnock (D-Ga.)
According to an Axios political reporter based in Georgia, Walker’s team is not allowing journalists “within 20 feet of him”.
“New rule at Herschel Walker events: journalists can’t get within 20 feet of Walker afterwards,” reporter Emma Hurt tweeted. “It would seem this is to prevent journalists from shouting questions.”
Hurt noted that the last time Walker took questions from reporters was two months.
Walker and Warnock are locked in a runoff battle because neither candidate received more than 50 percent of the vote in the November midterm election.
Walker’s campaign has been dogged by the candidate’s high profile policy gaffes, statements and controversies since before the November election. He has complained about China’s “bad air” replacing America’s “good air”. He has been accused of hiding ‘secret’ children and paying for at least two ex-girlfriends to get abortions, despite being a staunch anti-abortion candidate.
Recently, he said Americans need “gas-guzzling” cars that release good emissions to fight climate change and has said he wants to be a werewolf.
Warnock’s campaign released a new ad featuring Georgia voters reacting to clips of Walker on the campaign trail, including his remarks on vampires versus werewolves, a bull in a field with three pregnant cows and complaining about China’s “bad air”.
“Why would I want someone like that leading the state of Georgia?” one woman in the ad asked.
If Walker wins the run-off election the Senate will once again be evenly divided with Democrats having a majority as Vice-President Kamala Harris will have the tie-breaking vote. If Warnock wins, Democrats will have a 51 seat majority in the upper chamber after John Fetterman defeated Trump-backed candidate Mehmet Oz in Pennsylvania to fill the seat of retiring Republican senator Pat Toomey.
