A Kansas man has been charged with threatening the life of President Joe Biden after he was intercepted on his way to D.C. to ‘cut the head off the snake,’ an order he says came from God.
According to the arrest affidavit, on Jan 26, Scott Merryman, a contractor from Independence, Kansas was intercepted by the Secret Service in the parking lot of a Washington D.C., Cracker Barrel restaurant.
During an interview with agents in the parking lot, Merryman said he had been instructed by God to travel to the nation’s capital to “cut the head off the snake in the heart of the nation.”
He later advised agents that he had a message to deliver to the president, adding that he would advise Biden that people were “fed up with the divisiveness in the country and should turn back to God or (go to hell),” court documents say. “Merryman made numerous comments about God, being guided by God, cloaked in the ‘blood of the lamb,’ and armored by God.”
Secret Service searched Merryman and his vehicle and found a loaded magazine for a .45 caliber handgun. The firearm was not located, according to the affidavit, and Merryman would not divulge its location.
Later on Jan. 26, Merryman called a Secret Service agent and double down on his threat to “cut off the head of the snake.” He also told the agent that he had “a bullet with your name on it,” and “I’m coming for you bitch.” When asked if he was threatening a federal agent, Merryman responded, “yes I am.”
He also posted several threatening messages on social media calling Joe Biden the “antichrist” and saying the president “would suffer a fatal head wound.”
He followed up by calling the White House switchboard board to once again threaten the president. Merryman told the operator that he was “coming to the White House to cut the head off the snake/anti-Christ.”
Merryman doubled down on his threat when confronted by agents again.
“I’m coming for his sleepy bitch ass sleepy Joe. I’m talking about President Biden and you can quote me,” he allegedly told agents. “I’m coming with three bullets no guns,” he said, according to the affidavit.
Merryman was taken into custody by the Secret Service and charged with threatening the life of the president, as well as interstate communication containing a harmful threat.
If convicted he faces up to five years in prison and a maximum fine of $250,000.
