Republican Senate Candidate Kari Lake gave a campaign speech at a Trump merchandise store in Arizona last week with the Confederate flag prominently displayed behind her.
In a photo published by The Guardian, Lake is seen talking to supporters at the store with a Confederate battle flag and a “Don’t Tread On Me” flag on display on the wall behind her.
The speech was part of a campaign event with the store’s owner, Steve Slaton who is running for the Arizona Legislature.
Lake’s campaign told the Guardian that they “do not respond to British propaganda outlets. We stopped doing that in 1776,” when reached for comment.
The campaign later said in a statement to the Arizona Republic: “Kari Lake went to a store. The campaign doesn’t own the store.”
Lake, a prominent election denier, is running for a seat in the United States Senate currently held by retiring Sen. Kirsten Sinema (I-Ariz.). If she wins her party primary, Lake will face Democrat Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-Ariz.) in November.
