Donald Trump’s daughter-in-law, Lara Trump, said she is considering replacing Marco Rubio in the Senate after the Florida lawmaker was nominated by Trump to serve as Secretary of State.
Trump, the co-chair of the Republican National Committee, told Fox & Friends Weekend that it “truly would be my honor,” to take Rubio’s place in the Senate, according to a clip shared by Mediaite.
“I think it would be great to have another young mom alongside Katie Britt there in the United States senate,” she added. “I have not been asked yet, but I certainly would strongly consider it if it is presented to me.”
Britt has publicly called for Trump to be chosen to fill the Florida Senate seat.
Florida Sen. Rick Scott (R), Sen Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.) and Florida Rep. Anna Paulina Luna (R) have also publicly backed her.
Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) will choose Rubio’s replacement, who will serve until 2026, when a special election would be held to serve the remaining two years of the term.
DeSantis’ chief of staff James Uthmeier and the state’s attorney general, Ashley Moody are also reportedly being considered for the seat.
