Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C) slammed the recently concluded Democratic National Convention (DNC) as a “hate fest full of insults” on Sunday.
Graham told CNN’s Jake Tapper on State of the Union that he did not see the DNC in Chicago as portraying “patriotism and unity” as the host claim, but rather as a “hate fest”.
“If you’re a Republican, you saw a hate fest. You saw a hate fest full of insults,” Graham said.
“It was designed to draw [Trump] into an exchange of insults,” he added. “It was light on policy, heavy on insults. So I told President Trump, then and now, you’re going to win this thing if you focus on policy. I think President Trump offers the best solution to change the trajectory of the country.”
Graham also pushed back on Democrats theme of ‘joy’ at last week’s convention, arguing that joy “doesn’t exist in the real world.”
“Americans are not joyful when they go to the gas station and fill up their car,” he said. “They’re not joyful when they make their mortgage payment. They’re not joyful when they go to the grocery store. People are hurting, and this whole joy love fest doesn’t exist in the real world.”
