Rep. Liz Cheney (R-Wyo.) said that she will not remain a Republican if former President Donald Trump is the GOP presidential nominee in 2024.
“I’m going to make sure Donald Trump, I’m going to do everything I can to make sure he is not the nominee. And if he is the nominee, I won’t be a Republican,” Cheney said at The Texas Tribune festival on Saturday.
Cheney also said she will campaign for Democrats to ensure that election deniers like Arizona GOP gubernatorial candidate Kari Lake is not elected.
Cheney lost her GOP primary in Wyoming to Trump-backed election denier Harriet Hageman last month. Cheney currently serves as the vice chair on the House select committee investigating the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
Asked on Saturday if the committee will speak with Trump before they wrap up their investigation, Cheney said: “Any interaction that Donald Trump has with the committee will be under oath and subject to penalties of perjury.
The Jan. 6 committee next public hearing will be on September 28th.
