Louie Gohmert’s daughter, Caroline Gohmert said in a statement on Friday that her dad contracted the coronavirus because he ignored medical expertise.
“Wearing a mask is a non-partisan issue. The advice of medical experts shouldn’t be politicized,” Caroline, a recording artist known as Bellsaint wrote. “My father ignored medical expertise and now he has COVID.”
“I love my dad and I don’t want him to die,” she added.
She urged others to listen to medical experts because, “it’s not worth following a president who has no remorse for leading his followers to an early grave.”
Gohmert tested positive for the virus during a pre-screen at the White House, moments before he was set to accompany Donald Trump to Texas last Wednesday.
Hours later Gohmert went on Fox News to brag to Sean Hannity that he’s “all in” on taking the controversial antimalarial drug hydroxychloroquine to treat COVID.
“My doctor and I are all in,” Gohmert told Hannity. “I got a text just before I came on from a friend doctor who just found out he had it, and he started the regimen too—zinc, azithromycin, and hydroxychloroquine. And that will start in a day or two, so thank you.”
