Some of Donald Trump’s staunchest supporters on social media are not taking the news of Joe Biden leaving the 2024 presidential race well, with some going as far as to label the move a “coup”.
Biden announced he was stepping aside as the Democratic party’s presumptive presidential nominee on Sunday and endorsed his Vice-President Kamala Harris.
Biden, 81, was seen by Trump allies as the weakest candidate to take on the former president this November given his low approval ratings and poor polling numbers against Trump.
Now MAGA is in uncharted territory and they are not responding to the news well about Biden suspending his campaign and endorsing Harris.
“The coup is complete,” Rep. Paul Gosar (R-Ariz.) wrote in a post on X.
“Undermining Democracy should never be condoned,” Former Acting Director of the United States National Intelligence in the Trump administration, Richard Grenell said. “They had an election. They were told he was fine before they voted – and we were told it was simply cheap fakes to think he wasn’t well.”
“It’s a coup,” far-right conspiracy theorist, Jack Posobiec wrote on X.
President Biden announced he was stepping down from the top of the Democratic presidential ticket on Sunday after weeks of pressure from within the Democratic party following a subpar debate performance last month.
“It has been the greatest honor of my life to serve as your President. And while it has been my intention to seek reelection, I believe it is in the best interest of my party and the country for me to stand down and to focus solely on fulfilling my duties as President for the remainder of my term,” Biden said.
