Majority in new poll says country is on the wrong path, Trump becomes more unpopular.

More than half of Americans say Donald Trump is leading the country down the wrong path.

According to the Emerson College poll, 53 percent believed the country is on the wrong track while 48 percent said the U.S. was headed in the right direction.

With those numbers voters are already looking ahead to the midterms next year which historically haven’t been favorable to the party that controls the White House.

Emerson College poll shows Democrats leading Republicans on the congressional ballot with 43% to 40%.

“Looking ahead to next year’s Midterm Election, the Democrats have a slight edge over the Republicans, with independents breaking for the Democratic candidate 37% to 27%,” Spencer Kimball, executive director of Emerson College Polling said. “However, a significant 36% of independents are undecided, so this number is expected to shift.”

The poll also shows Trump’s approval rating underwater. 45 percent of respondents approved of the job he is was doing as president, while 46 percent disapproved.

Trump’s approval rating has declined since he took office. Emerson College polling found he had a 49 percent approval rating when he returned to office in January and a 41 percent disapproval rating.

The Emerson College poll was conducted from June 24-25 with 1,000 registered voters surveyed. It has a margin of error of ±3 percentage points.
