A new poll shows that a majority of Americans believe that Donald Trump is a “terrible” or “poor” president so far in his second term.
The Associated Press-NORC poll finds that 39 percent of Americans rate Trump as a “terrible” president and 13 percent say he makes a “poor” president, giving him a total of 52 percent.
In contrast, a combined 31 percent say Trump has been “great” (18%) or “good” (13%) while 16 percent say he has been “average.”
Americans also say Trump has been mostly focusing on the wrong things, according to the survey.
Forty-four percent say Trump is focused on the wrong priorities, while just 24 percent say he is focusing on the right issues.
Still, about seven in 10 Americans say the first few months of Trump’s second term have been mostly what they expected, and only about 3 in 10 say the president’s actions have been mostly unexpected.
Both Democrats (71%) and Republicans (81%) say Trump’s presidency is going as expected.
“It has been one of the longest 100 days I’ve ever had to sit through,” California Democrat Rahsaan Henderson said. “I think the next four years will be a test of seeing who can resist the most and continue defying whatever he’s trying to do, since he defies everything, including the Supreme Court.”
“He’s really doing the stuff that he said he was going to do,” Tanner Bergstrom, a 29-year-old Republican from Minnesota said. He is “not making a bunch of promises and getting into office and nothing happens. … I really like that. Even if it’s some stuff I don’t agree with, it’s still doing what he said he was going to do.”
Overall, 39 percent of Americans approve of Trump’s performance as president and 59 percent disapprove.
The AP-NORC poll surveyed 1,260 adults from April 17- April 21, using a probability-based method from AmeriSpeak. The margin of sampling error for the poll is plus or minus 3.9 percentage points.
