Manchin says he has "no idea" if he will run for reelection.

Centrist Democratic senator from West Virginia, Joe Manchin is undecided about running for re-election in 2024.

Manchin, the only Democrat to hold a statewide office in West Virginia, told WV MetroNews’ Hoppy Kercheval that he hasn’t made a decision as yet and will be waiting until after next year’s midterm election.

“I have no idea. I’ll make a decision after the 2022 election, November, my term will be up in 2024,” Manchin said.

“So I would make a decision then, I wouldn’t make it now,” he said adding, “right now I’m doing everything I can to find some common sense and middle ground.”

Manchin won re-election in 2018 and indicated at the time that it was his last.

“It’s my last campaign for Senate, I know that. I know that for sure,” he told Politico at the time.

Manchin is the most powerful Democrat in the evenly divided Senate and has been forced numerous times to defend his position on President Joe Biden’s agenda and other key Democratic agendas like eliminating or weakening the filibuster to pass voting rights.

Asked about his role in the Senate and if it ever impacted him, Manchin said, “heck no, it doesn’t. It’s not going to change me.’
