Maricopa County Republican official calls Trump "unhinged".

The Republican who now leads the Arizona county elections department slammed Donald Trump for his continued falsehoods about the election, calling him “unhinged.”

“Wow. This is unhinged. I’m literally looking at our voter registration database on my other screen. Right now. We can’t indulge these insane lies any longer. As a party. As a state. As a country. This is as readily falsifiable as 2+2=5. If we don’t call this out…” Maricopa County Recorder Stephen Richer said on Twitter.

Richer’s remarks came in response to a statement from Trump in which he claimed that the Maricopa County database had been deleted and that ballots were missing.

Trump’s statement said, in part, that “the entire Database of Maricopa County in Arizona has been DELETED! This is illegal and the Arizona State Senate, who is leading the Forensic Audit, is up in arms.”

Richer and the board say that statement is wrong, and they’ve begun aggressively pushing back at what they see as continuing falsehoods from Republicans who question Trump’s loss, according to the Associated Press.

“Enough with the defamation. Enough with the unfounded allegations,” Richer tweeted Thursday. “I came to this office to competently, fairly, and lawfully administer the duties of the office. Not to be accused by own party of shredding ballots and deleting files for an election I didn’t run. Enough.”

State Sen. Peter Boyer (R) echoed Richer’s comments about the audit last week telling the New York Times that it makes Republicans “look like idiots.”
