Republican congresswoman Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (Ga.) blamed “mental illness” and “evil forces” for a mass shooting at a mall in Allen, Texas on Saturday that left nine people dead, including the shooter.
Allen Police Chief Brian Harvey said at a news conference that an officer was responding to an unrelated call at the mall when he heard the gunshots and “neutralized” the shooter.
“This is exactly what this monster deserves,” Greene wrote on Twitter. “Thank God for the brave officer that courageously ran into the line of fire to save others.”
Greene said nothing about guns, instead she offered prayers for the victims and their families and blame evil forces and mental illness for the massacre.
“We pray for the victims and their families and an end to the mental illness, drugs, and evil forces that cause people to commit such horrors,” Greene wrote.
“The federal government must partner with states for mental hospitals and drug rehab centers for the good of our society,” she continued. “We must fund and support police officers and prosecutors must put criminals behind bars. We need to study SSRI’s and other factors that cause mass shootings. Our nation is plagued with mental illness, drug addiction, homelessness, and out of control crime. We have to fix it.”
