A social media post with a purported quote from Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.) about Democrats having a supermajority in Congress if Republicans resign over alleged misconduct is satire.
“BREAKING: Marjorie Taylor Greene says if every member of Congress had to resign for doing what Matt Gaetz has been accused of, ‘Democrats would have a supermajority,'” the post reads.
The post actually originated from a satirical account on social media called ‘The Halfway Post’ run by comedian Dash McIntyre. The account’s bio reads “Halfway true comedy and satire… don’t report the facts, I improve them.”
Though there is no record of Greene saying the comment, the lawmaker did threaten to spill the beans on lawmakers’ alleged misconduct, and subsequent coverup, if the House ethics report examining allegations of sex trafficking, sexual misconduct and illicit drug use by Gaetz was made public.
“For my Republican colleagues in the House and Senate. If we are going to release ethics reports and rip apart our own that Trump has appointed, then put it ALL out there for the American people to see” she wrote in a November 2024 post. “Yes.. all the ethics reports and claims including the one I filed all your sexual harassment and assault claims that were secretly settled paying off victims with tax payer money.”
Gaetz withdrew his name from consideration as Donald Trump’s attorney general after opposition from Senate Republicans who demanded to see the ethics report.
The post with Marjorie Taylor Greene quip about Democrats having a supermajority is a satirical take. It suggests that the number of Republicans who paid to cover up allegations of misconduct is so large that if it came out and these lawmakers were forced to resign, Democrats would control a two-thirds majority in Congress.
Gaetz eventually voluntarily resigned from Congress before the damning report was released. Greene never outed these alleged deviants in Congress.
