Marjorie Taylor Greene says Kevin McCarthy 'doesn't have the votes' or the support in the House GOP to be Speaker.

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-Ga.)said on Thursday that House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) “doesn’t have the votes” or the support in the House GOP caucus to become speaker if Republicans win back control of the House in 2022.

“We know that Kevin McCarthy has a problem in our conference. He doesn’t have the full support to be speaker,” Greene said during an episode of Rep. Matt Gaetz’s “Firebrand” podcast aired on Thursday.

“He doesn’t have the votes that are there, because there’s many of us that are very unhappy about the failure to hold Republicans accountable, while conservatives like me, Paul Gosar, and many others just constantly take the abuse by the Democrats. The American people aren’t going to have it,” Greene said.

Greene was removed from the Education and Labor Committee and the Budget Committee in February after appearing to endorse political violence. Every Democrat and 11 Republicans voted to support the measure even though McCarthy opposed it.

More recently, Gosar was censured and removed from the House Oversight and Natural Resource committees after he tweeted an altered anime video showing himself killing Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y) and attacking President Joe Biden.

McCarthy promised earlier this month that both members would have committee assignments restored if Republicans win a majority in the House next year.

Asked if she respects current leadership in the party, Greene said: “I can’t respect leadership that doesn’t hold people accountable, yet allows people like me, Paul Gosar, to be constantly trampled on and abused, and then will throw us under the bus at the first given chance. I’m really sick of it.”
