Mark Robinson hospitalized after ‘incident’ at campaign event.

North Carolina Lt. Governor Mark Robinson was hospitalized Friday night following an “incident at a campaign event,” according to reports.

Robinson, the Republican gubernatorial nominee, reportedly suffered second-degree burns to his hand after leaning against a truck at the Mayberry Truck Show and Parade in Mt Airy, according to The Washington Post.

The campaign described him as being in “good spirits” despite the hospitalization.

The news comes just over a week after CNN revealed that Robinson made several sexually explicit and racially charged comments on a porn website’s message board, including calling himself a “black NAZI, expressing support for slavery, repeatedly using homophobic slurs and fondly recalled “peeping” on women.

Robinson has denied that the since-deleted porn message board comments were made by him.

Since the report was published, three GOP governors have withdrawn their endorsement, and the Republican Governors Association revealed that it will no longer be spending money in Robinson’s race.

Several top staffers including the campaign manager, finance director, deputy campaign manager, and senior adviser have also resigned from Robinson’s campaign.

On Thursday Donald Trump, who endorsed Robinson, calling him “Martin Luther King Jr on steroids,” told reporters he does not know much about the situation yet to pull his endorsement of the embattled candidate.
