A Massachusetts teacher who was photographed at the US Capitol during the Jan. 6 insurrection was elected to his town’s school board on Tuesday, Insider reports.
Matthew Lynch, 35 was a teacher in Braintree for 10 years before he resigned in February. On Tuesday, he won a seat on the Braintree School Committee with 2,319 votes out of 5,308 ballots which is enough to place him second out of three candidates elected, unofficial results show.
Lynch was photographed at the Capitol on Jan. 6 among the mob of Trump supporters who stormed the building to block Congress from certifying the results of the election for Joe Biden.
In the weeks following the riot, a photo of Lynch in front of the Capitol emerged online. He resigned from his job and told the principal of the Braintree High School that he would run for the school board.
Lynch told Patch that he was interviewed by the FBI twice about his involvement in the Capitol riot.
According to the Washington Post, Lynch is one of at least seven people who were at the Jan. 6 rally that ended up getting elected to various public offices on Tuesday.
