Massive explosion in downtown Nashville that injured three, may have been an “intentional act”, Police say.

Authorities suspect that the early Christmas morning explosion in Nashville in a downtown area known as the ‘heart of downtown Nashville’s tourist scene’, may have been a deliberate act.

Early Friday morning, emergency crews responded to the explosion in a riverfront entertainment district that damaged several buildings. Metro Nashville Police Department said the explosion was linked to a vehicle.

MNPD spokesperson Don Aaron said the explosion was believed to be “an intentional act,” The Associated Press reports.

The explosion is being investigated by Metro Nashville Police Department, the FBI and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives.

Three people were taken to area hospitals for treatment, although none were in critical condition, Police say.

“It’s unfortunate, but any other morning I think it would’ve been a much worse story to be sure because there were so few people out,” Nashville Mayor John Cooper said at a press conference, according to The Hill.
