Florida Republican congressman Matt Gaetz said Kyle Rittenhouse, a teenager on trial for murder, would make a “good Congressional intern.”
“He is not guilty and deserves a not guilty verdict,” Gaetz said on Wednesday. “You know what, Kyle Rittenhouse would probably make a pretty good Congressional intern. We might reach out to him and see if he be interested in helping the country in additional ways.”

Kyle Rittenhouse was charged with five felonies: first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree reckless homicide, attempted first-degree intentional homicide and two counts of first-degree recklessly endangering safety, after shooting three men, two fatally, at a Black Lives Matter protest in Kenosha, Wisconsin last year after police shot unarmed Black man, Jacob Blake.
Rittenhouse claimed he acted in self-defense while the prosecution argues he provoked the protesters by showing up heavily armed to a volatile protest.
The jury began deliberations in the case on Tuesday.
