Congressman Matt Gaetz told The Hill on Friday that he will not resign in light of recent growing scandals.
Gaetz told The Hill in a text message that rumors about his resignation are “false” and it is “very safe” to say he doesn’t have any intention to do so.
On Thursday, reports emerged that Gaetz allegedly showed lawmakers nude photos and videos of women he slept with. Hours later the New York Times reported that DOJ investigators are focusing on Gaetz’s involvement with multiple women who were recruited online for sex and received cash payments.
Gaetz has continued to deny the allegations, claiming that it is part of an extortion scheme against him.
“Matt Gaetz has never paid for sex. Matt Gaetz refutes all the disgusting allegations completely. Matt Gaetz has never ever been on any such websites whatsoever. Matt Gaetz cherishes the relationships in his past and looks forward to marrying the love of his life,” his office said a statement in response to the New York Times report.
