Matt Gaetz's communications director resigns amid Gaetz's

Rep. Matt Gaetz’s communications director, Luke Ball has resigned amid a federal investigation into the Florida congressman’s sexual relationships.

“The Office of Congressman Matt Gaetz and Luke Ball have agreed that it would be best to part ways. We thank him for his time in our office, and we wish him the best moving forward,” Gaetz’s office said in a statement.

A person familiar with the matter said Ball quit “out of principle”.

Ball started working in Gaetz’s office as an intern in 2017. He later worked on his congressional campaign and became Gaetz’s press secretary in 2018, and later communications director, in 2019, according to ABC News.

His departure means Gaetz is left without a communications director at a time of crisis.

On Thursday night the New York Times reported that investigators are looking into whether Gaetz and a Florida associate provided cash or others things of value to women they had sex with after connecting online.

“Matt Gaetz has never paid for sex. Matt Gaetz refutes all the disgusting allegations completely. Matt Gaetz has never ever been on any such websites whatsoever. Matt Gaetz cherishes the relationships in his past and looks forward to marrying the love of his life,” his office said a statement in response to the New York Times report.
