Matt Schlapp, the chairman of the American Conservative Union, the main organizer behind the Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC), has been accused of sexually assaulting a man at a bar last weekend.
Journalist Yashar Ali, wrote in his newsletter ‘The Reset‘ that Schlapp “allegedly engaged in lewd conduct and allegedly sexually assaulted a man at a bar on Saturday night near a property he owns in north-central Virginia.”
According to Ali, Schlapp allegedly spent over an hour standing close to different groups of men in the bar, making them “uncomfortable” at times.
Several sources told Ali that Schlapp was within two feet of these men, despite there being plenty of space in the bar to move around. The men told Ali that Schlapp followed them around the establishment, which the journalist confirmed by allegedly reviewing video footage from the bar.
A man who went to the establishment with his girlfriend told Ali that Schalpp sexually assaulted him by grabbing his genitalia.
“Every time I looked around—whether we were on the dance floor, at the bar, or back at the table talking to people—every time I turned around, this guy was right there, one foot behind me. And I was just not comfortable with this,” the man told Ali.
The man’s girlfriend confronted Schlapp telling him he should back off because he is in a relationship. When the man asked Schlapp to leave because he was making him uncomfortable, Schlapp “grabbed and gripped his genitals while looking him directly in the eyes,” according to the report.
The manager escorted Schlapp out of the establishment after the man reported the incident, but he later returned leading to a “heated confrontation.”
Ali said he reviewed video footage and photos that confirm Schlapp was at the bar that night. One of the sources told him Schlapp used a credit card in his name to start a tab that he did not close out.
Schlapp has had a history of sexual misconduct allegations involving men. One lawsuit was dropped last year after Schlapp reached nearly half a million dollars settlement with the accuser, according to CNN.
“From the beginning, I asserted my innocence,” Schlapp said in a statement at the time. “Our family was attacked, especially by a left-wing media that is focused on the destruction of conservatives regardless of the truth and the facts.”
