House Speaker Kevin McCarthy defended Donald Trump’s handling of top secret documents on Monday, suggesting to reporters that the boxes of classified documents that were in a bathroom at Mar-a-Lago are actually safe compared to a garage at Joe Biden’s home.
Asked whether it was “a good look” for Trump to be storing classified documents in the bathroom of Mar-a-Lago’s Lake Room, McCarthy responded: “I don’t know — is it a good picture to have boxes in a garage that opens up all the time? A bathroom door locks.”
Classified documents from President Joe Biden’s time as vice president were found in the garage of his home in Wilmington, Delaware earlier year.
Biden said at the time that the documents were in a “locked garage” with his Corvette, adding “it’s not like it’s sitting on the street.”
After finding the documents Biden’s immediately handed them over to the Justice Department. Still, a special counsel was appointed to investigate whether President Biden improperly handled classified documents.
