McConnell: Greene's embrace of "loony lies and conspiracy theories” are a "cancer" to the GOP and country: Report.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell issued a rare rebuke of a House Republican on Monday when he blasted Georgia GOP Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene for embracing “loony lies and conspiracy theories,” saying it is a “cancer for the Republican Party,” according to statement issued to The Hill.

“Somebody who’s suggested that perhaps no airplane hit the Pentagon on 9/11, that horrifying school shootings were pre-staged, and that the Clintons crashed JFK Jr.’s airplane is not living in reality,” McConnell said. “This has nothing to do with the challenges facing American families or the robust debates on substance that can strengthen our party.”

McConnell did not mention Greene’s name but the Minority Leader taking this rare step shows he is aware of the danger she could pose in the future on the ballot especially since Democrats are trying to brand her as the face of the Republican Party.

This comes as Republicans in Georgia are worried that Greene could end up hurting their chances to win back centrist and moderate Republicans in the state after losing the presidential race and two Senate runoffs.

“If you have any common sense, you know she’s an anchor on the party. She is weighing us down,” Gabriel Sterling a top Georgia election official who debunked Donald Trump’s claims of widespread voter fraud said.

Democrats have given House Minority Leader Kevin McCarthy an ultimatum: Either Republicans move on their own to strip Greene of her committee assignments within 72 hours, or Democrats will bring the issue to the House floor.

Greene has endorsed violence against top Democratic politicians and have supported calls to execute House Speaker Nancy Pelosi for treason. She called mass shooting in schools fake, spread conspiracy theories about the 9/11 terrorist attacks and claimed that the deadly wildfires in California were caused by space lasers, among other controversial activities.

Facing calls to resign or be expelled from Congress, Greene is touting her relationship with Donald Trump. On Monday she told OANN that she’s going to visit Trump at Mar-a-Lago “soon” and said she has his full support.
