House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) was doomscrolling in the middle of Donald Trump’s speech at a Republican fundraiser on Tuesday night.
Tuesday was another rough day for the markets as stocks collapsed due to Trump’s tariffs targeting the United States’ biggest trading partners.
In his keynote address at the annual fundraiser for the National Republican Congressional Committee (NRCC) in Washington, D.C, Trump defended his tariffs and claimed they might actually help Republicans in the midterm elections.
While Trump was touting his tariffs on stage, Johnson was in the audience checking his phone and scrolling through the Drudge Report on the stock market collapse, according to NOTUS.
The outlet reported: “While Trump was talking, Johnson was looking at his phone. Our eagle-eyed reporter in the press area above the crowd took this snap, showing Johnson reading Drudge. The blaring red headline? ‘Stocks Continue Plunge.’”
