House Speaker Mike Johnson (R-La.) suggested Sunday that Volodymyr Zelensky may need to resign after Donald Trump’s meltdown at the White House in a meeting with the Ukrainian president .
On Friday, an Oval Office meeting with Trump, Zelensky and Vice President JD Vance devolved into chaos after Vance accused Zelensky of being “disrespectful” and demand that he show more gratitude toward Trump after the Ukrainian president rightfully pointed out that Putin cannot be trusted to not violate a ceasefire agreement.
In an interview on NBC’s Meet The Press, Johnson blamed Zelensky for the meeting going off the rails and suggested that he should resign.
“I saw Zelensky rather stiff-necked in the Oval Office instead of being gracious and saying, ‘Thank you,’ and looking for a way out of this mess. He did quite the opposite,” Johnson said.
“Something has to change,” he added. “Either he needs to come to his senses and come back to the table in gratitude, or someone else needs to lead the country to do that.”
