Milwaukee bar to close during RNC to avoid the 'sh*tshow'

A Milwaukee bar is planning to close its doors during the Republican National Convention to avoid the “shitshow.”

Ricky Ramirez, owner and operator of The Mothership announced Thursday that the bar will be closed this summer during the week of the RNC, from July 15 to 18.

“Sup idiots we haven’t lost a lot of followers in a while so here we go… as everything gets amplified with like the RNC shitshow coming to town Imao I would like to formally state that we’re shutting bar down during the week of because fuck that noise,” Ramirez wrote. “I’m not trying to get involved with or actively take money or rent the space out to that tomfoolery.”

However, Ramirez said that the bar could still be reserved for private events for “free to dirt cheap prices,” as long as it has nothing to do with politics.

His staff will still be paid on the days they are shut down.

Ramirez was more measured in his response in an email to the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel, telling the outlet that “alcohol and politics don’t mix.”

“The No. 1 reason is we are a bar and alcohol and politics don’t mix,” Ramirez told the outlet. “It’s a rule in any bar no matter what kind of bar it is, so that’s the simple gist of it.”

“We want to represent the entire city and include all, especially our friends who don’t have equal access to this part of city due to the segregation caused by the history of this city,” he continued. “Both parties do little to mitigate the ongoing issues, so screw them both. We don’t want to throw a party for either side because they both suck (in my eyes, the RNC a lot more).”
