Police in Colorado say more people were injured in the Club Q shooting earlier this month than was previously reported.
The death toll from the Nov. 19 LGBTQ shooting remains at five, but Colorado Springs police said in a statement that the number of people injured has risen to 22, including 17 who were shot and 5 others who were injured but were not shot.
Twelve others “were a victim with no visible injuries,” police say.
According to the district attorney’s office, a victim of the shooting is anyone who was “injured, in hiding, exposed to hearing gun fire.” These individuals are eligible for compensation, mental health counseling and other services.
More people who could be victims with no physical injuries may have left the building before police arrived. Officials are urging these victims to contact the FBI to help with the investigation.
Police say Anderson Lee Aldrich, 22, entered Club Q, an LGBTQ nightclub in Colorado Springs on Nov. 19 minutes before midnight and opened fire.
Aldrich faces five counts of murder and five counts of committing a bias-motivated crime causing bodily injury.
They were ordered to remain in an El Paso County jail last week without bail.
