Hundreds of thousands of Georgians have already requested absentee ballots for the crucial January 5th runoffs in the state that will determine which party controls the Senate.
More than 940,000 mail-in ballots have been requested, according to Gabriel Sterling, the state’s voting systems implementation manager. Only 1,040 ballots were returned so far but Sterling says that number is expected to grow as election day draws closer.

For comparison, 1,322,529 absentee ballots were cast in the presidential election, which saw Georgia won by the Democratic candidate for the first time since 1992.
