Musk says he will resign as CEO of Twitter after he finds a replacement.

Elon Musk tweeted late Tuesday night that he will resign as the CEO of Twitter following a poll where 10 million users said he should step down.

“I will resign as CEO as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job!” Musk tweeted on Tuesday. “After that, I will just run the software & servers teams.”

The announcement comes days after Musk asked users if he should step down in a poll. More than 17 million users had voted. 57.5% said Musk should resign, while 42.5% it’s said he remain as CEO.

The poll came after Musk was criticized for banning the accounts of several journalists from national media outlets who wrote stories about him that he didn’t like, as well as Twitter’s decision to ban links to rival social media platforms including Facebook, Instagram and Mastodon.

Even people who defended Musk’s leadership in the past criticized him for banning links to other platforms. Hours later Musk walked back the policy and promised to conduct online Twitter polls to make any future policy changes, which he now says will only be open to paid users of Twitter Blue only.
