Elon Musk went there.
In a post on X Thursday amid his escalating feud with Donald Trump, the right wing billionaire said Trump would’ve lost the 2024 presidential election without him.
“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, Dems would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk wrote on X in response to a clip of Trump saying he “would have won Pennsylvania easily” without Musk and his support in the election.
“Such ingratitude,” he added.
Musk wasn’t done.
Musk donated more than $250 million to help elect Trump and has been a constant presence at his side ever since.
However, their bromance imploded in recent days as Musk criticized the Trump backed budget bill which the nonpartisan Congressional Budget Office says will add $2.4 trillion to the national debt over the next decade.
“I was like, disappointed to see the massive spending bill, frankly, which increases the budget deficit, not decrease it and undermines the work the DOGE team is doing,” Musk told CBS. “I think a bill can be big or it can be beautiful. But I don’t know if it can be both.”
He doubled down on Tuesday issuing a direct take down of the bill, calling it a “disgusting abomination.”
Trump has kept uncharacteristically quiet through Musk’s attacks on his signature domestic policy agenda. He finally responded Thursday, telling reporters in the Oval Office that Musk opposed the bill because “we took the EV mandate” and he is “very disappointed” in the billionaire.
“He [Musk] knew every aspect of this bill…..and he never had a problem until right after he left,” Trump added.
“Whatever. Keep the EV/solar incentive cuts in the bill, even though no oil & gas subsidies are touched (very unfair!!), but ditch the MOUNTAIN of DISGUSTING PORK in the bill,” Musk fired back. “In the entire history of civilization, there has never been legislation that both big and beautiful. Everyone knows this! Either you get a big and ugly bill or a slim and beautiful bill. Slim and beautiful is the way.”
“False, this bill was never shown to me even once and was passed in the dead of night so fast that almost no one in Congress could even read it!” Musk said in another post.
