House Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s husband, Paul Pelosi was hospitalized after he was “violently assaulted” early Friday morning during a home invasion at their home in San Francisco, according to a statement from her office.
“Early this morning, an assailant broke into the Pelosi residence in San Francisco and violently assaulted Mr. Pelosi.” Pelosi’s spokesperson Drew Hammill said in a statement. “The assailant is in custody and the motivation for the attack is under investigation. Mr. Pelosi was taken to the hospital, where he is receiving excellent medical care and is expected to make a full recovery. The Speaker was not in San Francisco at the time.”
Speaker Pelosi was not at home during the incident.
The San Francisco police said in a statement that they responded to the scene at 2:27 a.m Friday. More information will be provided when chief of police, William Scott, address the media, the department said.
The US Capitol Police is working with the FBI and the San Francisco police department to investigate the incident. The Capitol Police said the “motivation for the attack is still under investigation.” The agency also said special agents in its California field office “quickly arrived on the scene while a team of investigators from the department’s threat assessment section was simultaneously dispatched from the East Coast.”
