NC GOP to vote on censuring Sen. Richard Burr.

The North Carolina Republican Party will hold a vote on Monday to censure GOP Sen. Richard Burr after he voted to convict Donald Trump in the impeachment trial in the Senate.

The Associated Press reports that the group’s central committee will meet for the vote Monday night.

Burr was one of seven GOP senators–Romney, Collins, Murkowski, Sasse, Toomey, and Cassidy–to side with Democrats to find Trump guilty of the charge of inciting an insurrection for the deadly Jan. 6 attack on the nation’s Capitol.

“The evidence is compelling that President Trump is guilty of inciting an insurrection against a coequal branch of government and that the charge rises to the level of high Crimes and Misdemeanors. Therefore, I have voted to convict,” Burr said after his vote on Saturday.

Ultimately, the Senate vote of 57-43 fell short of the two-thirds majority needed to convict.

Hours after the vote on Saturday, the Louisiana GOP voted to censure Sen. Bill Cassidy

“We condemn, in the strongest possible terms, the vote today by Sen. Cassidy to convict former President Trump. Fortunately, clearer heads prevailed and President Trump has been acquitted of the impeachment charge filed against him,” the Louisiana Republican Party said after Cassidy’s vote.
