The MAGA candidate for governor of North Carolina Pastor Mark Robinson once again made headlines for controversial comments, this time saying that “some folks need killing.”
Robinson, the state’s current lieutenant governor, made the comment in a speech to Lake Church in White Lake, North Carolina in late June. However, video of the speech surfaced Friday in a report from The New Republic.
“There’s a time when we used to meet evil on the battlefield,” Robinson says invoking the United States military’s actions in response to the Japanese attack on Pearl Harbor. “And guess what we did to it? We killed it. We didn’t quibble about it. We didn’t argue about it. We didn’t fight about it. We killed it.”
“Some liberal somewhere is gonna say that sounds awful. Too bad,” he added. “Get mad at me if you want to. Some folks need killing. It’s time for somebody to say it. It’s not a matter of vengeance. It’s not a matter of being mean or spiteful. It’s a matter of necessity.”
“We need to start handling our business again… Don’t you feel it slipping away? … The further we start sliding into making 1776 a distant memory and the tenets of socialism and communism start coming into clearer focus,” Robinson continued. “They’re watching us. They’re listening to us. They’re tracking us.
Robinson is no stranger to controversy and has come under fire in the past for using antisemitic tropes and statements disparaging women, Muslims, and the LGBTQ community.
Robinson’s campaign spokesman, Michael Lonergan, defended his comments on Friday saying they were specifically directed at the historical references of the Japanese and Nazis in World War II.
“Absolute gutter lies from the shameless hacks of [President Joe Biden] campaign & [NCDP] they’re defending the Axis powers when Mark Robinson was applauding the brave Americans that fought in and won WWII,” Lonergan posted to X on Friday.
