Neera Tanden will serve in the Biden White House as an adviser to the president, CNN reports.
Tanden, a longtime policy expert, was initially nominated by Biden to serve as director of the Office of Management and Budget, but her nomination fell through when Democratic Sen. Joe Manchin joined Republicans and blocked her confirmation over comments she made in the past.
She later withdrew herself from consideration for the post.
In her new role–which does not require Senate confirmation–Tanden will begin planning for potential policy changes that could result from the forthcoming Supreme Court decision on Republican legal efforts to strike down the Affordable Care Act, according to CNN. She will also launch a review of the US Digital Service among other things.
