A new poll released on Saturday shows Vice President Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump in three key swing states.
Since President Joe Biden dropped out of the 2024 race and endorsed Harris to succeed him at the top of the Democratic ticket, the trajectory of the race has changed significantly.
The New York Times/Siena College poll released on Saturday found that 50% of likely voters in Michigan, Wisconsin and Pennsylvania each say they would support Harris while 46% of the electorate in each state said they’d choose Trump.
Harris’ performance in the poll is an improvement on President Biden’s. Though the three states helped propel Biden to the White House in 2020, polling has consistently showed the race tied or Trump with slight lead over the president.
The polls released on Saturday were conducted between Aug. 5-8 with 619 registered voters in Michigan and 661 in Wisconsin. The Pennsylvania survey was conducted between Aug. 6-9 with 693 registered voters.
Polling averages by 538 currently show Harris narrowly leading Trump in all three states.
In Michigan, Harris has 45.3 percent to Trump’s 43.2 percent. In Pennsylvania, the vice president is at 45.4 percent and the former president is at 44.5 percent. In Wisconsin, the averages have Harris with 46.1 percent to Trump’s 44.8 percent.
