Newsom slams Trump’s “unmistakable step towards authoritarianism” after he endorsed the governor’s arrest.

California Gov. Gavin Newsom (D) slammed Donald Trump’s call to arrest him amid anti-ICE protests in California.

Asked by reporters whether his ‘border czar’ Tom Homan should arrest Newsom, Trump said: “I would do it, if I were Tom. I think it’s great.”

Trump has presented no evidence that proves Newsom has broken any laws. Furthermore, no one in the administration is even accusing Newsom of criminal conduct that would warrant his arrest.

But, Homan had threatened to arrest anyone who obstructs the immigration enforcement effort, including Newsom and Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D).

Newsom fired back at Trump Monday, calling his endorsement of the idea to arrest him an “unmistakable step towards authoritarianism.”

“The President of the United States just called for the arrest of a sitting Governor,” Newsom posted on X. “This is a day I hoped I would never see in America. I don’t care if you’re a Democrat or a Republican this is a line we cannot cross as a nation — this is an unmistakable step toward authoritarianism.”
