Nick Adams nomination for ambassador to Malaysia in jeopardy: ‘Might as well throw that nomination in the trash.’

A Senate Republican aide said it is very unlikely that Nick Adams’ nomination to serve as United States ambassador to Malaysia will pass in the Republican controlled senate.

Trump announced the decision to nominate Adams, an Australian-America self-described “alpha male” and Hooters fan, in a Thursday afternoon social media post.

Trump called Adams “an incredible Patriot and very successful entrepreneur, whose love of, and devotion to, our Great Country is an aspiration.”

He added that Adams “has made it his life’s mission to extol the Virtues of American Greatness.”

But, a Senate GOP aide told the Hill that Adams’ nomination is likely dead already pointing to four Republican senators who are are likely to oppose it, including Sen. Thom Tillis (R-NC), who announced he is retiring from the Senate and therefore less inclined to fall in line.

“I certainly think it’s a worry. … Do you think Thom Tillis is voting for Nick Adams? Let’s run the math on that nomination already,” the aide said.

The aide noted that it’s incredibly unlikely that Tillis, Sen. Mitch McConnell (R-Ky.), Sen. Susan Collins (R-Maine) and Sen. Lisa Murkowski (R-Alaska) will back Adams.

Republicans can only manage to lose three votes in the Senate if every Democrat vote in opposition.

“You might as well throw that nomination in the trash,” the aide continued. “You’re going to have examples like that where you’re going from three ‘no’ votes, which is winnable on issues like that, versus you have four ‘no’ votes that don’t care about the political fallout from the right.”
