Nikki Haley breaks with Trump: "We shouldn’t have followed him."

Former US ambassador to the United Nations, Nikki Haley broke with Donald Trump and acknowledged in an interview with Politico that he “let us down” in the aftermath of the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.

“We need to acknowledge he let us down,” she told Politico. “He went down a path he shouldn’t have, and we shouldn’t have followed him, and we shouldn’t have listened to him. And we can’t let that ever happen again.”

Trump was impeached by a bipartisan majority in the House for inciting an insurrection after he encouraged his supporters to march to the Capitol to delay the certification of President Joe Biden’s victory.

During Wednesday’s Senate trial, House impeachment mangers showed previously unseen security camera footage of then Vice-President Mike Pence being rushed out of the Senate chamber as supporters of Donald Trump closed in on the Capitol chanting “hang Mike Pence.” This after Trump tweeted that Pence lacked the “courage” to single-handedly overturn the results of the election.

“When I tell you I’m angry, it’s an understatement,” Haley told Politico. “Mike has been nothing but loyal to that man. He’s been nothing but a good friend of that man. … I am so disappointed in the fact that [despite] the loyalty and friendship he had with Mike Pence, that he would do that to him. Like, I’m disgusted by it.”

Haley, who hasn’t spoken to Donald Trump since Jan. 6 believes he will not be in the picture in four years.

“He’s not going to run for federal office again,” Haley said. “I don’t think he’s going to be in the picture. I don’t think he can. He’s fallen so far.”
