Former US ambassador to the United Nations in the Trump administration, Nikki Haley said Former Vice-President Mike Pence did “what he thought was right” on Jan. 6 when he certified the results of the election.
“Mike Pence is a good man. He’s an honest man. I think he did what he thought was right on that day,” Haley told Fox News on Monday.
However, she took issue with Pence saying Trump was “wrong” to suggest he could overturn the election.
“I will always say, I just, I’m not a fan of Republicans going against Republicans,” she said. “The only ones that win when that happens are the Democrats and the media. And we have to keep our eyes on 2022, we’ve gotta get the majority back in the House, we’ve gotta get it in the Senate and we’ve got a lot of governors races to win.”
Last week, Pence told a gathering at a Federalist Society event in Florida that Trump is “wrong” to suggest that he could overturn the election and the idea is “un-American.”
“President Trump is wrong. I had no right to overturn the election,” Pence said. “The presidency belongs to the American people, and the American people alone. Frankly, there is almost no idea more un-American than the notion that any one person could choose the American president.”
