The North Carolina Republican Party released a statement on Thursday defending gubernatorial nominee, Lt. Gov. Mark Robinson, after a CNN report revealed that he made several disturbing comments on a pornographic website over a decade ago.
“Mark Robinson has categorically denied the allegations made by CNN but that won’t stop the Left from trying to demonize him via personal attacks,” NCGOP said on X. “The Left needs this election to be a personality contest, not a policy contest because if voters are focused on policy, Republicans win on Election Day.”
“The Left can try to smear Mark Robinson all they want, but when voters go to the polls on Election Day, they are going to be asking one simple question: Are you better off now than you were four years ago? The answer is overwhelmingly no and that’s why Republicans will win on November 5th,” the statement said.
Robinson, the Trump-endorsed candidate for governor of North Carolina, reportedly referred to himself as a “black NAZI!” and a “perv” because he likes to watch transgender pornography, under the username minisoldr on ‘Nude Africa,’ according to CNN.
He also expressed support for reinstating slavery, saying he “would certainly buy a few,” among other disturbing comments.
Robinson repeatedly denied to CNN that he made the comments on Nude Africa.
“This is not us. These are not our words. And this is not anything that is characteristic of me,” Robinson said.
“I’m not going to get into the minutia of how somebody manufactured this, these salacious tabloid lies,” he added when presented with evidence linking him to the account.
Robinson also responded to the story before it was published vowing to stay in the race and dismissing the allegations as “salacious tabloid lies” and a “high-tech lynching” in a video posted to X.
“Let me reassure you the things that you will see in that story, those are not the words of Mark Robinson. You know my words, you know my character, and you know that I have been completely transparent in this race and before,” he said.
Robinson is facing off in the North Carolina governor’s race against Democratic North Carolina Attorney General Josh Stein.
