NYC starts painting 'Black Lives Matter' mural in front of Trump Tower today.

New York City is moving ahead with its plan to paint ‘Black Lives Matter’ on the street in front of Trump Tower.

Local television station WPIX reports that the painting of the mural will begin on Thursday. Local officials will be closing the block to all cars starting today until Sunday to allow for the completion of the project.

Mayor Bill de Blasio announced the plan to paint the mural in front of Trump Tower last month. It drew the ire of Donald Trump, who took to Twitter earlier this month to slam the project, saying the sign is “denigrating this luxury avenue” and referred to the Black Lives Matter mural as a “symbol of hate.”

Mayor de Blasio responded to Trump’s tweet saying: “Black people BUILT 5th Ave and so much of this nation. Your ‘luxury’ came from THEIR labor, for which they have never been justly compensated. We are honoring them.”

This is just one of seven BLM murals to be painted in the city. The rest will be distributed throughout the city among the five boroughs.
