Former President Barack Obama took aim at Donald Trump’s recent bizarre behavior on the campaign trail in the final weeks.
Obama tore into his successor at a rally in Tucson, Arizona on Friday alongside Democratic Senate candidate Ruben Gallego, as he continues his swing state blitz to boost the Harris-Walz ticket.
“Have you seen him lately? I mean, he is out there, he’s giving two, two-and-a-half-hour speeches. Just word salads,” Obama said of Trump. “You have no idea what he’s talking about. He’s talking about Hannibal Lecter. He’s talking about this. He’s talking about that.”
“You would be worried if your grandpa was acting like this,” Obama added.
The former president also mocked Trump’s town hall on Monday, during which he paused questions and just stood on stage swaying along to his playlist for nearly 40 minutes.
“He just decided, you know what, I’m gonna stop taking questions and then he’s swaying to “Ave Maria” and “YMCA” for about half an hour,” Obama said. “Folks are standing there not sure what’s happening. Can you imagine if I did that?”
There have been concerns over Trump’s physical and mental health especially over the last week. The septuagenarian ex-president has delivered indecipherable rants at his rallies and has canceled several appearances.
On Friday, Politico reported that a Trump adviser asserted the former president was declining certain interviews because he was “exhausted” from the campaign trail.
“We do not need to see what an older, loonier Donald Trump looks like with no guardrails,” Obama warned Friday.
