An Ohio math teacher on leave is using his free time to travel across the country to spread the ‘big lie’ that the 2020 presidential election was stolen from Donald Trump.
According to CNN, Texas flag print bow tie clad math teacher Douglas Frank, is one in an army of conspiracy theorists who were inspired by the big lie to try and convince voters that the election was stolen.
Frank claims he found an algorithm proving that the election was stolen. He has shared this algorithm with lawmakers, election officials and voters across the country to rally them behind his debunked claims of fraud.
“Just about every county in the country was hacked,” Frank told an audience in Texas on Sunday.
Mathematicians and election experts say Frank’s algorithm is “crazy.”
“At the core of how our democracy works is that we have to trust election results,” Justin Grimmer, a political science professor at Stanford University told CNN. “Luckily, the theory is so crazy that I think only the people who really want to believe or really, really want to see some conspiracy in the world would be persuaded. But nevertheless, I think there’s a real danger there.”
“I think this took my research group an afternoon. You uncover that there’s no basis for this,” Grimmer added. “But if you’re not someone who, like me, spends all day working on statistics and data, six order polynomials and nearly perfect correlations — it sounds like he’s uncovered something really impressive.”
However, Frank is defending his debunked claims telling CNN in an interview: “I know the elections are not real. I know the elections are being manipulated. Regardless of who wins. I just want ’em to be fair.”
CNN noted that Frank has the backing of MyPillow CEO Mike Lindell who has spent about $25 million to spread election fraud conspiracies across the country. Frank also serves as an “expert witness” for Lindell’s attorney, and he is paid for specific projects.
