Ohio newspaper publishes letter calling Jim Jordan the “worse human being to have in a leadership position”

Jim Jordan on border deal: "Let the American people decide" in November.

A major newspaper in Ohio has published a scathing rebuke of Rep. Jim Jordan (R-Ohio) in a letter to the editor as the lawmaker runs for Speaker of the House.

Jordan, the chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, and House Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-La.) are jockeying for the position of House Speaker after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-Fla.) led a successful effort to remove the previous Speaker Rep. Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.).

Trump inserted himself into the race by throwing his support behind Jordan, which will likely boost his chances of securing the job.

On Saturday, The Columbus Dispatch published a letter to the editor by Randal Morrison, one of their readers, titled: “Electing Jim Jordan speaker would be a catastrophe for America.”

“With Trump’s endorsement, I am assuming Rep. Jim Jordan, R-Ohio, will win. That is a catastrophe for America,” Morrison wrote. “There is no worse human being to have a leadership position than Jim Jordan. Terrible for policy — Ukraine, the economy, the planet, and justice for those not like him.”

“It would be terrible for ‘process’ — the end of civility and finding a problem-solving path forward as well as strong democratic institutions,” he continued. “That catastrophe ultimately means one of two things: either all hope is lost or the resulting turmoil breaks the MAGA fever before it is too late. Because of our constitutional structural vulnerabilities, I fear the worst.”

Jordan is the founding chairman of the House Freedom Caucus, a group of ultra-conservative lawmakers that are known for rebelling against leadership.

House Republicans will meet Wednesday for their internal nominating process.
