Ohio voters approve ballot measure to establish right to abortion in constitution.

Arizona Republican blocks another attempt to repeal 1864 abortion ban.

Voters in Ohio approved a ballot measure on Tuesday to enshrine abortion protections into the state constitution.

The ballot measure, Issue 1, was to change the state’s Constitution to include protections for abortion access.

The measure establishes in the state constitution “an individual right to one’s own reproductive medical treatment,” including to make decisions on abortion, contraception, fertility treatment, continuing one’s own pregnancy and miscarriage care.

President Joe Biden celebrated election results in a statement Tuesday night, writing: “Ohioans and voters across the country rejected attempts by MAGA Republican elected officials to impose extreme abortion bans that put the health and lives of women in jeopardy, force women to travel hundreds of miles for care, and threaten to criminalize doctors and nurses for providing the health care that their patients need and that they are trained to provide. This extreme and dangerous agenda is out-of-step with the vast majority of Americans.”
