Orange County school board voted 4 to 1 in favor of students returning to schools this fall without wearing a mask or practicing social distancing despite a surge in coronavirus cases in the county.
The board voted on Monday to approve recommendations for school reopening which includes, daily temperature checks, frequent handwashing, and use of hand sanitizer, in addition to the nightly disinfection of classrooms, offices, and transportation vehicles, the Los Angeles Times reports.
The board’s recommendation is not a mandate, nor is it enforceable. The decision to reopen schools is left up to each school district.
California’s two largest public school districts (Los Angeles and San Diego school districts) announced on Monday that they won’t reopen for in-person classes this fall.
